Rachel’s hosting expedition Rachel is a 30-year-old teacher who has just started a book club for her friends. She wants to keep her friends updated on the schedules, books, and other issues. She decides that she needs a way to communicate with everyone all at once, and what better tool to use than the Internet? With that decided, Rachel begins her quest for a web site and all the “fixins”…. walk through her experience with her…and see how she did it!
Picking a domain name
A domain name is essentially your address on the web. Picking your domain name is like choosing your address. I know what you’re thinking, you can’t really choose your address, but on the Internet you can! Cool huh? Your domain name is how people will find you on the Internet; so it should be personal and easy to remember. Registering a domain name is easy and can be done through a registrar alone or directly through a hosting company like Way2Host. Rachel chose her domain name but wasn’t sure whether to register her name with a registrar or a hosting company. She figured that because she knew she needed hosting services for her site, why not just bypass the registrar and register through her hosting company. For those who don’t want to deal with technical and tedious hassles and who need to have their site up quickly, it’s easier to register your domain name through your hosting company. But there are some people who buy a domain name and do not build their web site immediately; of course, those people are better off registering with a registrar and avoiding hosting charges for a non-existent web site.
