So…how many people do you want coming to your apartment? Should you throw a housewarming party? Do you want your place to be the “hang out place” for your friends and always have people stop by? Or would you rather be more private and have the place to yourself? The same goes for a web site. You can tell the world or you can keep the information within a small group. It’s really up to you.

There are a number of different ways you can market your site. You can submit it to search engines, send out email announcements, and create banners for different venues. Rachel decided that she didn’t want her book club to be huge so she would refrain from doing any sort of advertising to the mass market. She did, however, purchase a mailing list, enabling her to email information to her members as well as people who may want to join her club in the future.

Another thing to keep in mind is that eventually you may outgrow your hosting plan and will have to upgrade. Just as your apartment may get too cramped, causing you to start searching for a bigger apartment, the same goes for hosting. Your site may require more disk space and need to accommodate more traffic, or you might want to enhance your site with additional features such as streaming media and chat programs. Monitoring your site to see when your needs change is crucial!

Rachel’s site was doing well within her group, but she decided that it would be beneficial to have chat abilities and a message board on her site as well. She had to buy the chat program for an additional fee and the message board came with the scripts included in her hosting plan. Soon she may just upgrade her plan to get additional space, more email accounts, and other features.

And you’re DONE!

So that’s it in a nutshell. Rachel did it painlessly…you can do it too! The process requires a little bit of research and a lot of creativity…start it now!
